This works for pre-mixed cake recipes (or so a friend's gf has done for me numerous times). I have no idea on other traditional recipes. Obviously, it's going to fall very flat for things like Mayo, Meringue, and Quiche.
Said friend's gf has traditionally done it with diet coke, but I don't see why regular coke wouldn't work.
In years past when Snowpocalypes are predicted here, the first things to clear out at the grocery store are bread and milk. In Wisconsin! Seems like that doesn't happen as much any more.
