12. unovis_lj is feeling down about her writing, which I love. I love the writing, not the 'her being down' bit. So here, for her, I list my favs, in my increasingly incoherent form of feedback that no one will appreciate but me:

An Old Night in Marseilles, in which Amanda is wearing a Napoleonic hussar uniform. A bit of clothing porn. I love a crossdressing woman in uniform. Reminds me of Tipping the Velvet.

Rejoice for the HLH exchange in 2008. GOD I love her imagery, her Shakespeare and Company setting, Bloomsday, Molly Bloom's monologue all threaded into a vague and unspecified request made to Duncan to Come. (Oh ha ha, sweetling, I see it now: Rejoice=Re-Joyce, you sly devil.)

Clothing Stories. Look, TW may have it's share of suit!porn, but Unovis made it fucking pie. Her Suiting Up and Tied are two of the best fucking suit!porn stories out there, lush, detailed, and she knows her clothes. Unovis taught me everything I know about the sexiness that is suit!porn, and what she didn't know, she pointed me towards with references. She is the suit goddess.

So…, in which it starts with the sex. But it's about how Methos has met Duncan before, he's seen him several times, and what Duncan doesn't know won't hurt him. Methos's flashbacks are almost involuntary, the way the memory is played in a five thousand year old man. She uses 'louche', people. Louche. God, bb, I love the way your dialogue is broken and natural and slippery, like a waxed crash test dummy.

And while I'm pimping things that are not in my current fandoms, I wanna pimp myself: back in 2007 I wrote a conceptual thing for the X-Men movie verse, and I think it's awesome. I ♥ it, actually, and while there are places that I think it falls, it really stands well in others, and it made me think about reader versus speaker, and about the non linear nature of narrative when subjected to the concept of not having a speaker, per se. So anyway, I liked it then, and I was proud of it, actually, so I'll pimp it now: You Like This Angle, Shoot.

Well, in terms of WTFERY, yeah. But really, I feel like the art is getting worse and worse, and they were just like...let's do a bunch of cracky stuff. OTOH, THEY FINALLY LOOK LIKE THEY'RE RESOLVING SHANSHU, and I'm reading just to see what they've finally decided to do with it, because OH WE HAVEN'T BEEN HEARING ABOUT THAT SINCE SEASON GODDAMNED ONE.

They have some really grat moments, and the fish, man, I love the fish, but I feel like the Illyria arc is getting a shaft, and Spike is relegated to humor (which is all he does anyone). Wesley steps up his game as the book goes on, and I wish we saw more of secondary characters, like Groo. But I think that becomes petty whining on my part.
