Apr. 20th, 2011 04:13 pmHey, it's time to get a new phone, and I and to get an email and data plan too. I suspect that this will be mucho bucks under my current company, Sprint. Does anyone have recommendations? I pay 60 bucks now, so that's about where I'm looking.

Date: 2011-04-20 08:33 pm (UTC)However, I do highly recommend Samsung. I've had Samsung and Nokia and I'm VERY hard on electronics. My phone is dropped on a daily basis, but while my Nokia phones messed up in a year or less of crossing paths with me, the Samsung phones keep going without any visible difference at all except some scratched paint here and there. Samsung is also incredibly easy to use.

Date: 2011-04-22 03:06 pm (UTC)Kitty Wireless is a Page Plus reseller, and their customer service is UNBELIEVABLE. For $27/mo, I get 1200min, 2000 texts, 100Mb of data AND I can use any Verizon-capable phone. I spent $200 and got a used Droid X that I'm running on the plan now, and I ADORE IT.
They use Verizon bandwidth, so I get service wherever there's Verizon.
Plus, if I ever decide that 100Mb of data isn't enough, I can buy more for $10 per 66Mb. OH, and if that STILL isn't enough? I'm not on contract, so I can switch to regular Verizon, or join Sprint or try out Boost Mobile or Virgin.

Date: 2011-04-20 10:52 pm (UTC)I don't know how much a month because I'm not the one in charge of the bills. However, I have a Motorola Droid. Save for a direct hit to the display due to a drop, it hasn't broke from the other multiple times of dropping. The direct hit was over a plate and spoon - so that might have factored in. The rest have been right to the floor. Plus, it has the slide out keyboard if you're into texting.

Date: 2011-04-21 12:50 am (UTC)While HTC isn't perfect (androids still have a bit to go, I feel) their user support is fantastic. I've been having problems with my phone abroad, and they have answered every email in 24 hours or less. Plus, the FAQ on their website is pretty extensive.

Date: 2011-04-21 01:58 am (UTC)Right now, my bill is $222.00 a month with T-Mobile. I am paying out Tiff's My Phone (T-Mobile's iPhone equivalent--which rocks btw). Regularly they are $192.00.
For that I get unlimited minutes (which you can imagine is super-important to me and Nick), unlimited texts (super important to my son) and a data-plan for Tiff. When she gets A Real Job, she will take her phone--another reason I am glad we are on month-to-month. Easy separation.
1. "Whenever: Minutes used last month
Me: 3,166 (previous month I had over 5,000)
Kelly: 56
Tiffany: 1,513
2. Text messages last month
Me: 226
Kelly: 2,659
Tiffany: 4,255
3. Picture messaging
Me: 74
Kelly: 12
Tiffany: 56
I think you can guess who I use a majority of my minutes for. :)
So, to me, T-Mobile can't exactly be beat, not for this family, for under 200 bucks (got rid of home phone too). I will be very, very unhappy if we are forced to go AT&T--and I won't. Tiff can do what she wants, but I will go back to Verizon, who I had for awhile as they got unlimited calls before T-Mobile did. Yup, carried around two phones--one just for Nick!
I like T-Mobile phones too--Tiff loves her new phone, I adore my standard Motorola flip-phone, and son loves his pretty-banged up Blackberry (he does not have a dataplan, didn't want it). I will be replacing his phone soon with one like Tiff's. Plus, in Europe, T-Mobile is quite handy to have over there.

Date: 2011-04-21 05:39 am (UTC)One of the more interesting plans I've seen is Straight Talk. They use Verizon's network, but their plans are a lot cheaper. No idea on their customer service, though I've heard mixed reviews on it. Of course, I believe you have to use their phones, so what you see is what there is and it's not a sexy as most of the other companies.
