SWEDISH PLASMA TIME!
Jan. 21st, 2011 09:31 amI woke up this morning to this:

GAH. THIS CAN ONLY MEAN ONE THING—IT'S TIME FOR NORWEGIAN COFFEE.
Step One: Boil water I measured out my full coffee pot minus one cup.

Ready the ingredients. I chose to use Ritual's Ethiopia Gedeo:

Your extra cup of water (cold), and one egg!

ETA: Actually, what you should o is mix the egg and grounds with 1/4 cup of the reserved water. Save the last 3/4 cup for the end.
Crack the egg and mix it in good with your coffee grounds. Add the cup of cold water and stir. (see above)

Nastay.
When the water is boiling, reduce to a simmer and add the egg/coffee mix. Set timer and simmer for 2 ½ minutes. Ready your mug!

ETA: When you take the coffee off the heat add the 3/4 c cold water to settle the grounds better.
Strain the coffee. My mesh seive wasn't good enough, so I used my coffee filter (not a paper filter)
EW, grounds.
The grounds bind with the egg and put them to the bottom, leaving you with a rich, clear brew:

SWEDISH PLASMA!
BORK BORK BORK. THE FILM IS OKEY-DOKEY!

Date: 2011-01-21 02:52 pm (UTC)Ah! "Cowboy coffee" is made by heating coarse grounds with water in a pot, letting the grounds settle and pouring off the liquid to drink, sometimes filtering it to remove fine grounds. While the name suggests that this method was used by cowboys, presumably on the trail around a campfire, it is used by others; some people prefer this method. This method is still used in certain situations in Finland, Norway and Sweden, which have the highest consumption of coffee per-capita, but filter brewing is the standard method there today.

Date: 2011-01-21 03:05 pm (UTC)I imagine though, that if you had stale coffee, this would be a nice way to improve the taste without throwing it out.

In fairness, I put flaxseed meal into my smoothies. Benefiber is too expensive for me.

Lol this is true the younger you get, too. I guess there's a poop bell curve.
