Well, in the spirit of fairness, they don't see it as unjustified since they generally look at her as a villain. So they feel the need to explain. Kind of how a person who genuinely believes the bible's anti-homosexual text will tell you that they're not hating, they're just following the truth.

I've not been following the TW fandom lately, but this I had to see. Damn, yeah, when is it ever okay to be mean?? It is just so ugly, and uncalled to target someone like that.

I didn't realize they were so pervasive. That is frustrating. I like the idea of cutting the baby in half, but would they? They are everywhere it seems like, and don't give a damn.

In a lot of ways I try to wrap my head around the hate as a phenomenon. I don't want to couple it with SIJ, because I don't think that's a mirror pairing, but sometimes it seems like I should.

Yeah, I don't even begin to get it. But then, I'm apparently weird when it comes to shipping.

It's entirely possible to ship Snape/Hermione without hating Ron, but tell that to a large chunk of the ship and watch the fur fly. But nowhere near this extent.

It's entirely possible to ship Snape/Lupin and still love Tonks to bits, but the hate one often sees there gets a bit closer to the Gwen hate.

I totally don't get the Gwen hate. It actually freaks me out a bit, because I identify with her in several ways, so seeing some of the real frothing-at-the-mouth hate kinda makes me go, "Well, I guess I'd piss you the fuck off too. Laters."

Are there things written into her character that occasionally make me cringe or even wonder what flavor crack the writers were smoking? Absolutely. That is true of every single character on the show though. Do I think RTD tries too hard to "tell" us how we're supposed to feel about her and not hard enough to "show" some of these qualities? Definitely. And yet I still like her lots.

Also, WTF about Janto = pedophilia? (I'd guessed that the people being called pro-pedophilia were the ones eagerly looking forward to TW: TNW. But then TPTB apparently set down the crack pipe apparently did some actual reality-checking and decided it was saner to have that character just be a convicted murderer. Thank the Gods for small favors. So, obviously, no, that wasn't what people were talking about.) Buffy/Angel is arguably pedophilia, at least given when he started stalking her. Edward/Bella, the same. Jack/Ianto? Ummm, Ianto was well into his 20s by the time Canary Wharf fell, so, yeah, but no. Not at all. WTF, fandom?

For me it's a telling form of limiting POV. Like, if you dislike a character, that's cool. You really don't have to like Gwen. But to call her Gwenzilla and then do her characterisation the way people write her in a lot of the anti-Gwen fics shows a character I don't even recognise. It makes me wonder why they're stretching it so badly. what do they need or want or get out of it? It makes me look at them and wonder what they see when they watch the show.

Then I worry if they vote.
