1. I just want to point you all to the Pittsburgh Parking Chair, a thing that I have noticed many people don't know about, even though it looks like other cities have a history of this too. As someone noted the other day in the [livejournal.com profile] pittsburgh comm, if you move someone's chair from the spot they spent 2 hours shoveling out earlier in the day, do not be surprised to find that your car's wheels have been frozen to the ground in the morning.

2. So there's a great little comm, [livejournal.com profile] tw_lucky_7, where this week the started a seven week challenge. Seven sins, seven people (Jack, Ianto, Gwen, Rhys, Andy, Tosh, Owen). For the next 7 weeks, they provide the sin, you provide the character, and 700 words. The thing is once you use a character, you can't use them again. So this week was pride, and I did Ianto, [livejournal.com profile] cruentum did Tosh, and [livejournal.com profile] troygirl68 did a beautiful Jack. There are more, but those are the ones that caught my eye. I don't know what the next week will be, but I've already assigned my sins and sinners, and I hope I manage to get a few right. Woo!

3. When I told Crue that I was reccing him, I cannot help but think he got all excited about what I would say about his fic. I loved it, because I love Tosh, and I love fics that have images in them, and I love the whole "what did UNIT prison do to Tosh?" thing. And of course, he's got all that realism in there and Tosh almost going batty, and then there's the idea that when Jack sprang her to talk at the table, she probably stank, and that's charming in a way. But Crue did mention something about John Barrowman and sexiness, and he seemed let down when I said I hadn't planned on the JB sexay, so just for you, Xiao Di Di—

I like to think that's his purple handbag someone has next to him.

4. Season 3 of Dexter—Deb is having sex with a guy, so he's either going to die or he's a serial killer. On the other hand, This Jimmy Smits thing has to end. ::eyerolly:: And the Camilla storyline with the euthanasia? Fucking gorgeous. Vince Matsuka--being awesome 24/7.

5. Snowpocalypse: Beyond Winterdome has arrived. I shoveled in prep last night, but is anyone ever really and trulY prepared for the Frozen Precipiquisition? I think not.

Snow: Where is your dryer vent so that we might cover it?
Me: I don't know!
Snow: (wiggles into shoes) TELL US. TELL US THE WEAK PARTS OF YOUR SOFFET AND FACIA.
Me: I RENT I DON'T KNOW OH GOD NOT IN MY COLLAR.
Snow: WE HAVE WAYS OF MAKING YOU TELL US HOW MUCH ROCK SALT YOU HAVE LEFT.

AHAHA. My dad keeps a beach chair in the trunk of his car purely for this purpose. Is this not a common practice? Really? Huh.

I KNOW. Every winter there's an article in the paper about it, because some dumbshits who just moved there don't get it and get all uppity about it.

THOU SHALT NOT MOVE THE PARKING CHAIR--It took me three hours to shovel out my spot. I WILL ICE YOUR WHEELS TO THE GROUND, MUTHER EFFER.

Never seen that JB pic. I love pics of him laughing. I might have to go snag that Scottish icon, it's so funny. That comm is a great idea and I joined, but I have no inspiration yet. Loved your fic and troygirl's, will have to go read crue's. Did you see curriejean's Tosh vid yet? Fantastic.

I'm so glad I have no need of the parking spot chair. I hated winter before, but this is really the pits. Staring out at massive amounts of snow. This is not supposed to happen in N. VA.

The beach chair thing i have never seen, but i have a garage and a drive (which I had to clear today :( ). I can see why, though and the purpose should seem obvious.

We have been littered w/ the parking chair here, but instead of plastic chairs (which some have used) I have also seen a lot of exercise equipment holding spaces. My favorite, though, was the child's carseat. Hmmm. Your car is gone. The carseat is in the spot. You damn well better not have your kid in that car w/out the carseat! Morons.

Date: 2010-02-10 07:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] amand-r.livejournal.com
It might be that the carseat is no longer needed. I have an old one in my garage. Can't trade it in or sell it, so why not make it disposable placemarker?

At least, that is what I am telling myself.

Monday, I left work at 4:45pm, got gas, hit a grocery store for some food, and got home around 7pm. I swore that if anyone moved my chair and parked there that I would smash their windows after I unloaded groceries. Fortunately for my freedom, it didn't happen.

I'm entertained by the use of C in crue's story.

Masuka is always awesome. Not to spoil things too much, but he's still around in Season 4 and he's still awesome in that. What did you see him do that brings that statement? The Camilla storyline, I completely forgot about that in Season 3. Definitely a beautiful story.

So.... Dryer not working then?

wHAT? yEAH, the dryer is working, but last night when I started it and then went out to shovel, I notices the steam coming from the vent area in a bizarre way and I realised that it was snowed in. I tried to clea it but it was hard to see. hopefully it's okay.

I just love vince and his whole "throwing a bachelor party for dex."

Wow. Parking chairs? I can totally see that kind of territorial behavior causing riots around here. No, seriously, like right now, outside my window. In NYC, that shit does not fly. I guess we don't get enough snow on a regular basis to make space marking an acceptable practice, otherwise it would naturally establish itself as customary. My dad does it with garbage cans, then gets really pissed off when someone disrespects the can and takes his spot. People literally leave their cars in their spots for a week and walk or take the bus, just so they don't lose their space. We will wait until the spring thaw!
The boyfriend and my father have had heated philosophical discussions about this. Dad is on the side of "I dug it, it's mine!" We are of the opinion of, "Yes, you dug your car out, everybody who needs their car has to, but once you leave that spot it's up for grabs because nobody owns any part of the streets in New York, despite what the crotchety, angry old white guys say, and there is no law against it, so it falls under the category of THAT'S TOO BAD."
I will teach him the trick about freezing the interloper's tires to the ground, though. That will make him feel better. Maybe he will stop painting parking spot lines on the street. Some day, he's going to get punched, I just know it.

And - oh! - you are watching Dexter! Matsuka rules. Deb is a freak and a mess. Love her. Jimmy Smits is awesome. And Michael C. Hall said there are members of his family happier about him being an apex predator in Dexter than being a loving gay man in Six Feet Under. The whole show just gets better and better. Wait till you see John Lithgow from this last season. He's got a nice tushy, too.

Yeah, I had a friend who moved here from NYC and it took her months to realise that people make eye contact when they pass each other here, and sometimes you say hello to strangers. NYC is pretty opposite PGH as much as that can be.

I just started season 4. I've been spoiled, so knowing what happens is actually making me sad.
