I know I talk about professionally writing a lot, but I never seem to do it, mostly because I don't even know how to go about doing it, but thanks to a few people I have several alternate ideas, and I'm thinking a few irons in different fires might be something. I have no lack of…well, I dunno, writing isn't difficult for me to do, which might be a sign that I don't work hard enough at it, or that it's just something I do well. I don't know what the answer is there. But anyway, I find I'm excited. I have three projects open in front of me and not one of them has a fanfic header.

You know you're more than good enough to write professionally, honey. As for breaking in, I know here we have a magazine (Australian Writers' Market or something) that's basically just a listing of who buys what kind of writing and how to submit it to them. I'm sure there'd be something like that for US writers.

You know, when I am thinking of South Africa, the first thing that comes to mind besides The Greatest Songs Evar, is asparagus. Um yeah. Wildlife/savannah/jungle/desert/people/art is more likely. I may join this endeavor to figure out the meaning of the asparagus.

You're an awesome writer. The poly really read as a novel to me. And considering how little info we had on Lisa, I would consider Lisa mainly an OC and your Lisa was one of the most fully developed characters I've read in fiction in ages. (Please view icon as character-based, instead of gesture-based.) I would love to see your original fiction!

Hi Amanda, you don't know me but I'm another aspiring writer. I write fanfiction and I write "real" fiction with the aim of having a novel published one day. I write over there under my real name Jill McCaw and I have a nearly completed first draft of a novel. It is the sort of story I think you'd love and I'm delighted to say that it grew out of a Torchwood fan fic moment.

This forum is just the best place to hone your skills, get feedback and have a heap of fun while you learn. We have exercises each month, set goals, share and laugh and support each other. There are several participants who are published authors and everyone is incredibly generous of their knowledge and time.
Drop in, lurk a while, but I reckon, if you're serious about "serious" writing (and that's just stupid because fanfiction is a perfectly valid and serious form of writing)then you'll join in.
