Holiday Drinks!
Dec. 22nd, 2009 11:37 amHello flisters! So. I love cocktails when other people make them for me, and I like making them, if I have a reason. Like Holidays! Woo! And I know y'all agree. So I'm going to share some cocktail recipes with you, and maybe you'll share some in the comments! What do you make on the holidays? What have you always wanted to try? Got something special your family and friends make? Planning on trying something new this year? Post it here!
POMEGRANATE COCKTAIL—
2 cups pomegranate juice
1 cup grenadine
1.5 cups vodka
1 cup fresh OJ (from blood oranges if available)
0.5 cup lime juice
Mix and proceed to be knocked on your arse. (This is actually one of my favorite drinks in the universe.)
TRUE BLOOD COCKTAIL—from Colin, the proprietor of the Shooting Star in Southhampton, UK:
1 Cherry VK (or any other cherry flavour alcopop)
1 shot vodka
1 shot dark rum
1 shot blackcurrant cordial
Top up with coke
Serve in pint glass with ice.
Have fun brushing your teeth later! To make it more holiday like, I suppose we could rename it the Bloody Reindeer, but I think we should just give Colin his due.
THAT SCARY ASS VANILLA VODKA—
Put fresh vanilla beans in a bottle of vodka. Marinate for a billion years. Use TARDIS to go forward in time to retrieve bottle. Drink. Get wasted.
So there you have it! Go forth and share! Or is it go shorth and fare? Or what? Oh? *hic*
BOOST THE SIGNAL. DRINKS HERE. I NEED A NEON SIGN.

Date: 2009-12-22 04:47 pm (UTC)I don't think I have any really "holiday" ones, but here are a couple of my usuals:
Girl Scout Cookie

1 shot kahlua
6-8oz milk
Avada Colada (more of a summer drink, inspired by a fic by
1 shot Malibu
1 shot Midori
pineapple juice to taste

Date: 2009-12-22 06:02 pm (UTC)Mix:
1 part coconut rum
4 parts sparkling pomegranate juice (Trader Joe's sells it)
That's it. I've found that you can add appreciable amounts of vodka to this without drastically altering the taste. Depending on the extent of holiday emergency you face, this can be a very good plan.

Date: 2009-12-22 07:25 pm (UTC)I think I have most of the ingredients to make that first one. Just need to get the pomegranate juice. Maybe some extra grenadine too since I don't know if I have a full cup.

Date: 2009-12-22 08:14 pm (UTC)1 gallon apple cider
1 gallon apple juice
1 1/2 cups of white sugar
6 cinnamon sticks
750 mL Everclear Alcohol (70-90 proof)
Pour cider, juice and sugar in XL pot. Add cinnamon sticks. Slowly bring to boil on medium heat, stirring frequently. Remove from heat, discard cinnamon sticks. Allow to cool to room temp completely then stir in alcohol, store in containers and refrigerate. Serve as shots, chilled.
Note: Bringing to a boil may take a while depending on burner temp, pot size (if you are making full batch) and cooling time usually equals a few hours. After made you can store in fridge for up to a year. Shake well before serving. I recommend making 1/2 batch unless you have a huge pot, then make it all :)

Date: 2009-12-23 09:32 pm (UTC)You forgot a critical part of the recipe, though. It must be stored in canning jars for that special, Redneck charm! And, actually, if you can it properly, meaning it's heat-sealed, you can store it anywhere almost indefinitely.

Date: 2009-12-23 09:05 pm (UTC)SCREAMING WELSHMAN
1 part Absolut Mango
1 part Triple Sec
1/2 part cranberry juice cocktail
1/2 part sweet and sour mix
touch of grenadine
Shake over ice, lots and lots of ice, because without some dilution, this comes out incredibly sweet.
And my favorite drink of all time, the Vodka Collins. Which is just a Tom Collins made with vodka instead of gin.
VODKA COLLINS
2 parts vodka
1 part fresh lemon juice
1 part simple syrup
club soda
Shake ingredients together (minus the soda, naturally). Strain into an ice-filled Collins glass (a tall glass, for those of you without bar gear). Top off with club soda, garnish with mint or a cherry (I garnish everything with cherries). Enjoy in a complete lack of moderation. Not as sweet as a Lemon Drop, and it's fizzy. My favorite drink of all time, despite the fact that most people would guess a Cosmo is my fave. Cosmos are a fling, Vodka Collins is my true love!
