What about RTD? Can I still firebomb his house?

No, No firebombing. Bitter weeping=yes. Firebombing leads to jail, and I don't remember how to bake files into cupcakes anymore.

It's really not fair to any of them. They did what they did, and some of us may not like it, but really, blasting whomever's accessible? Not on. If you need to get a message through, then by all means write a strongly worded letter through proper channels, like they used to do IN THE OLDEN DAYS. But don't be hating on the closest accessible writer because he has a twitter and is cool enough to be all up in our shit with us.

BTW-- I'M DRAWING POST ITS ABOUT YOU AND C right now.

See, this is why I stay far away from the creators in fandom. The closest I get to interacting with a creator is having Warren Ellis' LJ friended, and that's more performance art than anything.

(Okay, this, and the fact that my Great Teenaged Fannish Shame was Dragonriders of Pern fandom, which got uglier every time the McCaffrey family got involved.)

Yeah, I have issues with creator-fen connections. I've been to a lot of cons, and I still get squicked by standing in autograph lines. If I had to stand in line to get a pic taken? WIG CENTRAL.

I follow Tom P and James because so meny of the fen do, and they are nice people, but I couldn't follow like, Nathan Fillion or some other star that I admire. I'm like, "I like the things you make that I watch and read. I don't have to like you as a person, even if I might like you." why should I want to know everything about an actor because I like a character he plays? Why should I feel deeply interested in a writer's blog because I like the books they write? I dunno.

And I am all up in the YMMV on this, because I don't condemn people who LOVE being all up in the celebs. That's a fandom of its own, and it can be cute and fun, I am sure.

Y'know, speaking of Warren Ellis, I was thinking today that CoE was really like what would happen if Warren Ellis wrote Torchwood...

THIS. I agree with you.

See, we write, too.

I write fic for (maybe) a few hundred people, not six million, but if people don't like what I do with a story they can just go read something else. I do not owe them a certain resolution. I want people to like my stories, but if they don't, they don't.

If it doesn't work, then they can go and write their own story.

And that's what fandom should do as well.

How about voting with one's pocketbook? Where I live the only way to see Torchwood is to rent or buy the dvds, or pay through the nose for a cable package that has BBC America. (Along with about 500 other channels you never watch.) I don't intend to buy or rent CoE or Season 4. If I had cable, I'd send a letter to my subscriber service telling them to drop BBC America and why.

All I need are my season 1 and 2 dvds, and I'll be happy to tell the publisher/distributor that without the character of Ianto Jones, I'm just not interested in buying CoE or season 4 of Torchwood.

That's possible. I'm always sceptical of that, though I have a friend in market analysis who tells me that even slight boycotts change numbers, and then she usually has to explain that number change. What companies DO with that information is a different matter.

Yes, sir. Attack the writing, the narrative, the choices, the editing, the directing, the performances. We can make our points without making it personal right to their faces. YMMV, but if I wouldn't say something to someone in real life, then I'm not going to say it to them on the internet. But that doesn't mean we can't tell them what bothered us about their show! Hell no!

What we write in our private posts is a different matter, but-- and this is my preference only-- I'd like not to get into character assassination.

That's pretty much the way I feel. Like, I cannot control what other people do (If I could, Peter Wingfield would be my beer drinking buddy with GDL every Friday night, and ever Wednesday we'd all stop for 5 minutes and do the Humpty Dance), but I can control what I do, so this is the decision I have gone with.

I don't do private posts about fandom unless I'm naming names, and I try not to do that, either. Not anymore. So whatever I say on my LJ I assume the person I'm writing about will see it, even if they never do.

I almost want to print that out and hang it in my cube, but it would be even more inappropriate than asshole Frank! I might, if I thought it would get me fired, but they really like me for some reason, so it would just be awkward.

Also, I'm friends with [livejournal.com profile] cruentum and I recced your sparkle pen post it in my Torchwood recap and he was all 'OH, YOU KNOW AMAND_R, EVERYONE KNOWS EVERYONE IN THIS FANDOM' (except not in all caps, because he's very composed like I'm not) and I said 'NOPE, I JUST THINK SHE'S FUNNY. HAAAA.' and he said 'YOU SHOULD BE FRIENDS WITH HER' (except you, in a mature way) so here I am. HI.

OMYGOD THAT IS A GREAT IDEA. I HELPED MY MOM GET FIRED, SO IF YOU EVER NEED ANY HELP WITH THAT, I AM SO THERE FOR YOU. I LIKE HELPING TO CREATE LOLSY DESTRUCTION.

I HAVE SO MANY NEW FRIENDS, I FELL LIKE I'M MAKING A PRONO. BUT A GOOD PRONO, WHERE THE GUYS ARE SEXY AND THE BOOBS ARE REAL.

Srs, you recced me? Haahaha, thanks! I had seen you around (because this is like high school), but I haven't even gotten a chance to friend people back this week. I was too busy sewing my Scarlett O Hara is in mourning black hoop skirt to wear out to the shops this week. :(

I don't know about Crue and those caps. He's like JB, when you're not looking he WHIPS THEM OUT and you're like OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DONG! I MEAN DOING!
