Kidlet is 2. She displays a great deal of behaviors that we would think of as stereotypically "girly", but really, she does a great many things that are NOT genuinely in that category. She actually gets to be rather secluded. She isn't in preschool. My mother is her nanny, and she doesn't watch standard children's television (I have season one of The Electric Company, Old School Sesame Street, a few Elmo DVDs and Schoolhouse Rock), because we don't have cable.
I think it's sad that the older she gets, the more striated children's clothes become. The girl's section is an explosion of pink and pastels. Now I like pink myself, but I don't wear it every day, people. I make some of her clothes, and they're the things with skulls on them. Yay, skulls!
On the other hand. I got her a fairy skirt. Because dude, if they had one in grown up sizes that wouldn't end with me in the psych unit, I'd wear it. Totes.
